Whether you’re browsing and looking at free live cams online or searching Mrs. Right or Mr. Right Now there is, as the saying goes, an app for that. Finding the perfect love match has never been easier. Mobile technology has revolutionized the way people find dates, long-term relationships, and even the occasional “hook-up.”
The days of tethering yourself to a computer wondering if the person you’ve been talking to really looks like their profile picture are, thankfully, behind us. These days you can get notification of a potential suitor on your smartphone, look across the aisle of the supermarket and see them smiling back at you.
Okay, that scenario might seem a little creepy, but you get the idea. If you’re in the mood for love or just want to have a little fun, then check out these great phone dating apps.
OkCupid
If you’ve been around the online dating scene for a while, then you will have no doubt heard of OkCupid. The folks behind the brand have built up a massive user-base with their well-established online dating services. Now, you can take advantage of the OkCupid’s mobile applications, which has all the basic tools that many will be familiar with from the website.
From the app, you can create a profile, browse matches, rate other profiles, scan for users in your area, and instant chat with potential dates – all free of charge. A premium subscription allows you to access advanced features such as the ability to view the profiles of users who liked you and more.
Tinder
Tinder is currently the talk of the dating town. This highly popular app blazed the trail towards a generation of swipe-and-scroll dating apps. It has come under criticism for encouraging people to make snap, shallow judgments about potential dates. But, it is oh so fun!
Once the free app is download to your mobile device of choice, you simply create a profile, include a few images, and a couple of sentences describing yourself. Tinder shows you singles in your locality. Swipe right if you like one, swipe left on the ones that don’t tickle your fancy.
If you and another user nearby swipe right on each other, the ability to start sending each other direct messages is unlocked. It’s gamified dating and like any good game, this can get addictive.
Hinge
The Hinge service does its best to take the awkward mistrust out of meeting random people online. It works by introducing you to potential matches that you share mutual friends with on Facebook. The idea is that you will naturally have interests, people, and experiences in common with your potential date.
You log into the app using your Facebook account, enter your age, location, preferences, and sexual orientation and you will be presented with a list of potential matches, every day at noon. Get in touch with the ones you like and see how things go from there. It’s that simple.
Coffee Meets Bagel
Coffee Meets Bagel (CMB) is another app leveraging the power of mutual Facebook friendship in dating. But, there is a difference between CMB and Hinge: Rather than inundating you with numerous potential matches and burdening you with the task of making a choice, CMB simply sends you one “bagel” every day.
You have 24 hours to decide whether to like or pass on the apps suggestion. The CMB app learns from each choice you make, so technically the bagels should become more suitable over time. If you and another person express interest in each other, you enter a private chat room where you can get to know one another better, and hopefully take things offline.
The website claims that this “is the only dating app that women love.” There doesn’t seem to be a feature for ordering coffee or bagels, though.
Hitch
Yet another Facebook-based dating app, but of the three this takes itself the least serious. Hitch lets your friends set the matches for you. The matching is done through the apps anonymous chat feature. All you receive is the gender and age of your match, along with a short message and details of the friend that matched you.
After a few messages, you can send a Reveal Request to get more details about your match. Both singletons and matchmakers will find this app interesting and fun.
Grindr
Straight people have an abundance of apps from which to conduct their tech-based courtships. Gay men, on the other hand, would struggle to find a decent app to cater to their dating needs. That is until Grindr came along. The Grindr app is for gay and bisexual men looking to meet like-minded men in their locality.
Things are kept simple. You can be set up and discovering in a matter of minutes. You enter your name, add a photo, and answer a couple of brief questions, and you’re good to go. Start chatting to local users for free or opt for the app’s premium subscription that comes with ad-free browsing and a few extra features.
3nder
3nder is quite different to other apps listed here. No, not in the sense that you don’t need to write a bio and upload a photo. The app sticks to that tried and tested format. Where it differs is that it is made for three, whereas other apps are aiming at two. Get it?
This one is for when two is just not enough. Gay or straight, 3nder is designed to make it easier to arrange a threesome. The app connects couples with singles or the other way around and claims “your pleasure is my priority”. There’s no hanging around either!
If the three of you can’t come to an arrangement after three days of talking, a built-in feature forces you to begin fresh negations elsewhere. More than 100,000 people signed up for this app within two months of it being launched.
Happn
This app might well be a stalkers dream. Although the makers do not market it as such. No, this app promises tales of romanticism, gumption, and spontaneity by allowing you to rediscover the people you have crossed path with. If, for example, you didn’t quite have the courage to speak to that “hottie” at the bus stop, Happn could help.
The apps shows you others in a 250-meter radius who are also signed into the app. If you like someone you see swipe right, if they swipe right also then there is a strong possibility of a date on the horizon. There are more than 700,000 users of Happn so logging on will put you smack bang in the digital playground of people searching for love.
Grouper
The Grouper app does away with the awkward, time-consuming, and often terrifying part of dating: messaging. Instead, it allows you to go straight to fun part, meeting in real life. There is a slight twist, though. Instead of the usual one-on-one dating scenario, Grouper sets up an, er, group date.
Using data from Facebook, the app matches two people for a date. Each person is then encouraged to bring two friends. Oh, and this is a blind date, so no names or photos are shared before the meet. Each person pays $20, which is a good incentive for them to turn up, but it also covers a drink, the planning of the night out, and the matching service.
Now there is no excuse for not landing a date or two. There are awesome dating apps to suit every preference and personality type. Most of these apps can be used to great benefit for free.
